To Life

The colour process

We do not pick colours. We earn them.

Every colour we ship has survived contrast, context and a year of real use before it ever reaches your brand. Here is exactly how a brand travels from grey to full strength, step by step, with nothing hidden.

  • Listen
  • Tune
  • System
  • Ship

The four stages in detail

  1. Listen

We audit the brand, the room it lives in and the rivals on the same shelf. We map where the brand has gone grey, and why. Nothing is tuned until we know what note is missing.

Audit · interviews · competitive map
  2. Tune

We find the one primary wavelength and prove it against light, against contrast, against scale. A colour that only works in the deck is not a colour. It has to hold from a phone to a billboard.

Primary lock · contrast proofing · scale tests
  3. System

Around the primary we build supports, tints and accessible pairings, with the rules that keep them in tune across a hundred touchpoints. This is the part most studios skip. It is the part that lasts.

Supports · tints · accessible pairs · rules
  4. Ship

You leave with tokens, guidelines and a brand that holds together long after we are gone. Then we stay on hand, so the tenth asset is as deliberate as the first.

Tokens · guidelines · handover · art direction

Stage two, live

A palette, built in front of you.

To the side is a real build: five wavelengths tuned from grey into a working system. The ratios are real, not decoration. Tap any chip to copy its value, the same way we hand a system to your engineers.

  • Primary The brave choice everything else answers to.
  • Supports Two hues that carry the primary without shouting over it.
  • Accents The signal colours: success, warning, attention.
  • Contrast Every pair proven against the 4.5:1 floor.

Before you ask

The questions we hear most.

How long does a colour engagement take?

Most run six to ten weeks, end to end. A focused palette refresh can be three. We never rush Tune, because a colour that is not proven is not a colour.

Do you only do colour?

Colour is the spine, but it never travels alone. Identity, type, motion and brand voice all hang off the wavelength we lock in stage two.

What if we already have a brand?

Most clients do. We audit what exists, find where it has gone grey, and tune from there. A rebrand is rarely a clean sheet, it is a brave correction.

How do you keep colours accessible?

4.5:1 is our floor, never our target. Every pairing is proofed, and colour is never the only signal in a system, glyph and text always accompany it.
